Historic Tour of Local CCC Camps at Greenwood Furnace State Park

When:
Sat, May 25th, 7:30pm - 9:00pm
Where:
15795 Greenwood Road, Huntingdon , PA
Description:

Come and join us for a virtual tour of the five local CCC camps near Greenwood Furnace State Park, on Saturday, May 25, at 7:30 pm in the Blacksmith Shop.During the throws of the Great Depression, President Franklin D. Roosevelt established the Civilian Conservation Corps to reduce unemployment among young men, and at the same time to perform conservation work. Pennsylvania had well over a hundred camps, many in this area. Through the use of historic photographs and other memorabilia, we will take a “Virtual Tour” of the five camps near the park – Alan Seeger, Owl’s Gap (Whipple Dam), Martin’s Gap, Diamond Valley, and Penn-Roosevelt.This year marks the 80th anniversary of the CCC. If you have a living or deceased relative who was in any of the area camps in Huntingdon, Mifflin, Juniata, and Centre counties, we want to hear from you. If you have historic photos or other memorabilia, we would like to copy them, or we can accept them as a donation to the park’s growing collection of CCC related items. Items from our collection will be on display in the Visitor Center this summer.
Information about this and other park programs can be found on the park’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/greenwoodfurn or on the Calendar of Events at www.visitPAparks.com.
