Do you ever gaze into the night sky and wonder about the mysteries of the universe? What is our place within the solar system and the Milky Way galaxy? What planets exist beyond Earth? Families and other folks are welcome to join us at Shaver's Creek for an evening of space exploration. Astronomer Jason Young, a Penn State graduate student and an expert on the night sky, will be at Shaver's Creek with his telescope on Friday, February 10th from 5 to 7 pm. Come explore the stars, make your own comet, and learn about the moon and the sun. Suggested for ages 8 and up. Pack yourself in winter layers-- we will be stargazing and working outside! If the night is cloudy, the fun continues inside with the indoor planetarium. Hope to see you there! For more information and to register for this program, please call Shaver's Creek at 814-863-2000 or email ShaversCreek@outreach.psu.edu
This program is $5 for non-members and free for members. Your membership makes events such as these possible. Thank you.

An evening of song and story-telling in the hands of Orcadian western swingers The Lone Star Swing Band, with novelist, playwright and musician Duncan McLean at the helm. The National Theatre of Scotland's, Long Gone Lonesome tells the story of Thomas Fraser, the Shetlander with two lives. By day fisherman, father and islandman, by night world class innovator in American country and roots music.
Obsessed with country and the blues, Thomas mastered the styles of his idols – such as Jimmie Rodgers, Hank Williams, and Big Bill Broonzy – and made their songs his own. A shy, retiring man, he avoided public performance. Instead, he gave family and friends tapes he lovingly recorded in his croft. Thomas laughed at the idea that the wider world might appreciate his talent. But thirty years after his untimely death, those precious, fragile tapes have been reissued on several CDs, and his fame has spread to Nashville and beyond.
Orcadian western swingers, The Lone Star Swing Band, tell this upbeat story through song and words, with novelist, playwright and musician Duncan McLean at the helm. After the show, the audience will be invited to join The Lone Star Swing Band for dancing in the Texas Dance Hall tradition.
Juniata student tickets are FREE, all others start at just $12 and may be purchased tickets by visiting our ticket page.
